Just wash with the same mild soap you use on the rest of your motorcycle, and dry with a soft cloth. I apply four layers of 2K clearcoat to every custom timing cover, so they are easy to maintain. Read a post on how to degree a cam(s) and it will explain how to do this. This is the way you would "degree a cam(s)" with adjustable timing gears. use a degree wheel on the crank with a dead stop. Clear Cam Gear Cover is almost an exact duplicate of the factory Mitsubishi upper timing belt cover. Use a dial indicator with an extension and put #1cyl at the max height. looking at the Mitsubishi tdc mark on the timing cover and line up the balancer with it. If you look at the diagram below you will see that Mitsubishi marked the cam gears so you can check the timing when you have #1 cyl at TDC. Make sure their is no slack on the opposite side of of the chain/belt that does not have the tensioner and the cam(s) are timed. For many years you had to line up the cam(s) with a mark somewhere on the head and make sure #1 cyl is at tdc as I described in the instructions for how to do this. Most vehicles do not have colored links on the chain or markings on belts. I have installed countless timing chains and belts on plenty of different manufacturers engines. Using a small allen key you can release the tensioner. ![]() If you remove the 12mm bolt just to the left and slightly above the balancer, you can gain access to the auto locking tensioner through a tiny whole. I didn't have the time for that nor did I like the idea. I guess there is some wedge you can buy or something.
